Centerboard stuck up

Postby cymruboy » Mon Sep 01, 2014 1:09 pm

I pulled up my centerboard yesterday on my P21 and now it won't go down. I cleated the line off overnight and left about 6" slack incase it fell. Same this am so I bought a 5/16" steel rod and fed it down and tapped gently with a hammer. Still no go...

There are no lifting cranes where I live so I may have to resort to paying a diver. Can anyone help ? Dan

Dan, I can't help. I'm in the same situation. I'll be watching for solutions. I've just been sailing with the centerboard up. It really doesn't affect the boat that much except for sailing close to the wind.

Recently due to extremely low tides, my centerboard became stuck in the up position. I have a 1991 P 21 and the tube that holds the CB pennant has a jog in it. I went to the Home Depot store and bought three old fashioned screen door springs.
I wired the springs together and inserted one end of the spring down the tube. Bingo! I was able to push the board down. After pulling it up and pushing it down a few times it works just fine.
