Winch strap issue?

Postby DgS » Thu Jun 05, 2014 11:24 am

I recently replaced the original winch cable on the trailer with a new nylon strap. This requires a bolt to be slid through the winch drum to hold the end of the strap. I tried a standard bolt, but that quickly bent. I then got a stronger bolt, the yellow hardened steel kind, but I think that might be bending a bit too. What is the best option here?

Derek,

I'm no expert on trailers since I sold my Flying Scot and trailer and got a P-27.

I'm wondering how long your strap is? When starting to winch the boat is there several wraps still on the drum? Seems like with a good number of wraps on the drum the strap would cinch down and not transmit the force to the bolt.
